Day 1: Friday

When you arrive on Friday, you and your furry companion will be welcomed with open arms and a “doggie bag” upon check-in, which includes a sheet and towel for wiping off sandy paws, a custom water bottle, a bowl for trips to the beach, a flying disc, pooper scoopers, and doggie cookies. With these provisions and comfortable amenities, you can rest assured that you and your beloved pet will have the ideal vacation. It’s important to note that dogs cannot be left alone in the room, so be sure to plan ample time for bonding with your furry companion.

Upon arriving, the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse (located in Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site) is only a short walk from the hotel and offers fantastic views of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. The star attraction of this destination is none other than the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, Oregon’s only existing lighthouse with attached living quarters attached and also the only wooden Oregon lighthouse that is still standing.

Up for a second historic lighthouse tour? Just north of our hotel via a 15-minute drive is the historic Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Catch a glimpse of the Gray Whale migration and the vibrant colors of the tidal pools, all with a view of the lighthouse. Seeing the breaching Grey Whale is a highlight of vacationing in Newport! Don’t miss out on this fun and free experience – dogs on leashes are welcome on all the trails but are not allowed inside the buildings or the lighthouse.

Spend your evening dining at the delectable Pacific Kitchen located in the heart of the Nye Beach district. Pacific Kitchen at Nye Beach is serving up the best the Northwest has to offer every day with dishes from wild salmon to fresh-catch tacos to a perfectly grilled Oregon grass-fed burger. And with a dog-friendly patio, your pup can join you and offer up their most doleful looks in hopes of getting even the teeniest bite of burger.

Ready to head in for the evening? The resort offers a range of pet-friendly amenities including water fountains and two pet exercise areas located near the guestrooms to make your stay as worry-free as possible. The hardest part about bringing your dog to the beach (uncontrollable sand) just got a whole lot easier with access to a designated wash area to get their salty fur ready for bed.

Day 2: Saturday

Start your Saturday at Seal Rock State Recreation Site, a beautiful pet-friendly beach located south of Newport. Enjoy the stunning view of the off-shore rock formation home to seals, sea lions, and sea birds. Take the short trail to the beach, which features an ADA-accessible viewpoint at the midway point and plenty of space to play with your four-legged friends. Seal Rock is a favorite spot for sightseeing and observing how marine life lives on the coast, all within about ten minutes from Hallmark Resort.

Spend the rest of the afternoon playing a round of golf at Agate Beach Golf Course, a pet-friendly nine-hole course in Newport. This spot allows you to roam the course with your favorite furry caddy and refuel at the course café, which also allows dogs. Have an energetic pup who still needs to blow off some canine steam? Stop by the off-leash dog park: Agate Beach Neighborhood and Dog Park for a nice fenced area for your dog to play.

In the evening, head to Nye Beach, a pet-friendly neighborhood that features more than 40 businesses, restaurants, lodging, and beach access. This is the perfect place for you and your pooch to visit, whether you’re interested in shopping, eating, or enjoying the sandy beaches of the Oregon coast. While out, be sure to browse through the fine art, musical instruments, jewelry, home decor, sculpture, and outdoor art at Inscapes Gallery, where leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Want to grab a drink? When you can’t bring your pup, our first choice for great NW brews and delicious bites is, of course, Georgie’s. But when you do bring them, there are tons of dog-friendly breweries in town with great food and atmosphere we’d recommend. Here are just a few with dog-friendly patios and ocean views: Wolftree Brewery, Newport Brewing Company and the Taphouse at Nye Creek.

Day 3: Sunday

Start your day at South Beach State Park, located just a five minute drive from Hallmark Resort. This park has a clear ocean view with year-round picnic tables, restrooms, a playground, hiking trails, and bicycle paths. South Beach has a wonderful view of the Yaquina Bay Bridge, so make sure you capture an unforgettable photo with your furry friend.

Finish up your trip at Devil’s Punch Bowl State Natural Area, approximately 20 minutes North of Hallmark Resort. Dogs are welcome on leash where you can take a scenic hike to the Punchbowl, a stunning collapsed cave where the water swirls and crashes during high tide. It’s a great way to cap off your trip with a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience. Don’t forget to snap some photos and capture the beauty of the Pacific Northwest!

With the ultimate dog-friendly itinerary and unlimited treats in the lobby 24/7 – Pack your bags and your pup, and get ready for a memorable weekend getaway. There is a $25 fee per pet, per night some of which goes toward the Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Newport. Thanks to our loyal guests, we donated over $3,000 in 2022 to help shelter animals.
