Newport, Oregon in March

Spring is here and that means longer days, flowers blooming, brighter sunsets, whale watching, and Spring Break! Find out what is going on this month in Newport, Oregon and make your plans to visit us!

Nye Beach Mystery Weekend – March 12th 9am

This is a family friendly event where participants visit local business locations to collect clues and interrogate suspects to solve this “Who Dun It!” This year “Washed Up! The Story of a Hollywood Starlet,” takes place in 1961. Suspects dress in period clothes as do many of our sleuths. Packets are available for purchase from 9am until noon on Saturday, March 12. Participants collect clues starting at 10am and suspects are available for interrogation after 11:30am on March 12th. Signs will direct you to the starting point at Nye Cottage located at 208 NW Coast Street. The Reveal is held at the American Legion (just follow the signs) at 7pm, following a silent auction. Follow us on Facebook at Nye Beach Mystery Weekend or call 541-270-2234 for more information.

Spring Whale Watching Week – March 19th – 26th

Whale watching takes place almost year-round on the Oregon Coast. The whales migrate past on their way to and from the waters off Alaska and Mexico. We watch whales in the winter from mid-December through January. Spring watching begins in March with the peak near the end of the month and finishes in June with mothers and babies traveling north. Summer brings whales that feed along our coast from July to mid-November.

Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup, presented by AAA Oregon – March 26th 9am

Celebrate the Oregon coast by giving back on March 26! Since 1986, the Oregon tradition of cleaning up our beaches has supported clean seas and healthy communities for our residents, visitors and wildlife. This is a family friendly event, covering the entire Oregon coast; it draws thousands of volunteers each year and all Oregonians are encouraged to join in. Pick your favorite beach and sign up to volunteer at solveoregon.org or call 503-844-9571 ext. 332 or 1-800-333-SOLV.
