Check out Septembers! http://newportchamber.org/events Also the new show Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove has launched on the Discovery Channel! In the first episode of “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove,” which premiered last Tuesday night on the Discovery Channel, viewers are introduced to the world of Dungeness crab fishing off the Oregon Coast, and the captains who make their living catching the delectable crustacean. Gary Ripka adds that “Dungeon Cove” is “going to have a lot of interaction with Newport and the Coast,” showing how “the crab fishing affects everyone, not just our families, but all the families of the town. Newport, Oregon in July! Join us in July! The weather is great meaning we are having some spectacular summer sunsets! So much to do on vacation in Newport, Oregon; from all the restaurants and shopping to all the summer fun activities on the beach! We look forward to having you and your loved ones with us! Independence Day Fireworks – July 4, 2016 It is one of the largest fireworks displays in Oregon – and it certainly sounds bigger than all of them. It attracts about ten thousand people, and it has some very unique aspects. Newport, on the central Oregon coast, has a Fourth of July celebration that not only but stunning but surprising. First and foremost: the surrounding hills of Yaquina Bay create an unusual effect where the sound bounces and careens around the area, tripling or quadrupling the booming noises from the mortars. Look for about 1100 explosions this year, according to volunteers putting on the show. The fireworks begin at dusk! Newport’s Amazing Race – July 30, 2016 The Newport Young Professionals will hold their 6thAnnual Amazing Race on Saturday, July 30. Newport, Oregon in June! There’s always something special happening in Newport – here are some of the premier annual events that help make our town such a vibrant place to live and a desirable travel destination! Check out our upcoming events to see what’s happening in and around Newport this month. June 4th – Newport Marathon & Half Marathon Starting in Yaquina Bay State Park at the historic “haunted” lighthouse, runners will head north along the ocean through some of Newport’s picturesque neighborhoods. This loop through the city is primarily residential with a few short gentle hills and turns at street corners. Heading back through the starting area, runners will proceed downhill under the Yaquina Bay Bridge to the bayfront. Past shops, restaurants, galleries and a large fishing village, the course continues along the bay. Just past mile four, there is a short hill that rises about 40 feet then gently descends back to bay level where it continues for the remainder of the race. The course follows the Yaquina Bay and River estuary to mile 15 where it turns back toward town, retracing the same route. The gentle hill at mile four reappears at mile 26, and it’s downhill from there to the finish. The theme in 2016 is planting trees. Over the next five years, as Earth Day moves closer to its 50th anniversary, they’re calling on you to help achieve one of their most ambitious goals yet — planting 7.8 billion trees and they are starting now. Trees will be the first of five major goals they are undertaking in honor of the five-year countdown to the 50th anniversary.
